Precision Training across the Lifespan
What kind of training works best, and for whom? This session will explore physiology spanning molecular to system-level training responses to diverse exercise across the lifespan, covering strength routines for women in perimenopause and menopause, interval training in younger vs. older adults, heart-rate adaptation in population-scale datasets, and injury prevention in youth sport.

Mary Leonard, MD
Mary Leonard is a compassionate clinician, distinguished researcher, and respected mentor who cares deeply about improving the health and well-being of children everywhere. Her NIH-funded research program is focused on the impact of childhood chronic diseases on bone metabolism, nutrition, and physical function across the life span. In her roles as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and Director of the innovative trans-disciplinary Maternal and Child Health Research Institute, she is at the forefront of efforts to integrate precision health into research and training programs at Stanford.

Marily Oppezzo, PhD, MS, RDN, DipACLM
Marily Oppezzo is a behavioral and learning scientist, dietitian, and exercise science interventionist. She is a Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance Clinician Scientist Fellow, a Senior Research Scientist at the Stanford Prevention Research Center, part of the Stanford Menopause Collaborative of Practice, and head of the nutrition pillar at Stanford Lifestyle Medicine. Her recent work includes trials on “exercise snacks” and “Stronger,” a strength training intervention for women in perimenopause.

Aubrey Roberts
Aubrey Roberts is a PhD candidate with the Molecular Athlete Moonshot of the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance at Stanford. Her research focuses on the physiological and molecular effects of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and endurance exercise. She is an avid distance runner herself and is a two-time All-American cross country/track runner.

Tyler Tran is a data analyst at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. His work focuses on leveraging wearable device and smartphone data to better understand human health.

Kevin Shea, MD
Kevin Shea is the Division Chief of Pediatric Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health. He is an internationally recognized expert and researcher in pediatric orthopedic surgery and sports medicine.
